That's the part most people ask about. What they don't ask about, and what costs them more in real dollars, is the monthly cost of owning the house while probate is open. On a Sun City West home that's usually another $1,200 to $2,500 every month the estate keeps the property.

I've been the REALTOR® on enough of these to watch families lose more to delay than they ever paid the attorney. Here's where the money actually goes.

Attorney Fees — Where the Range Comes From
